Attendance Awareness Month
As you know September is ATTENDANCE AWARENESS month and boy do we have some surprises for you! As we continue our journey of creating a positive attendance culture we want to ensure that you are recognized for the hard work and efforts!

The first event of the month is a bit of a competition amongst fellow Attendance Clerks. At the end of September, we will be hosting an attendance awareness luncheon where all the winners will be announced so mark your calendars for
Sept. 30th from 11 AM - 1PM

The First Competition:                                                   The Second Competition:

Survivor

We have a series of challenges and at the end of each one you will receive a ping bong ball that you will write your name on. At the end of the month luncheon, we will do a reverse raffle! The more ping pong balls you have in the mix the better chance you have of being a survivor and winning some prizes!

The challenges are as follows:

Challenge 1: Having positive attendance growth every day- meaning if you have 501 students present on Monday, and 502 on Tuesday, 503 on Wednesday...and so on, you will get a ping bong ball at the end of the week. This will happen every week!

Challenge 2: Having above an average of 95% attendance at the end of the week, this will happen every week as well!

Challenge 3: Have all your truancy notices ran and uploaded to the shared drive before you leave on Friday- each week!

Challenge 4: An overall improvement of 1% (and each increment of one will be an additional ping bong ball)- at the end of the month.

King/Queen (or other) of

the Mountain!

As you all know the hard work of attendance cannot just fall on the attendance clerks- the whole school needs to be involved and helping promote positive school attendance. our second challenge is for the school sites!

The challenges are as follows:

Challenge 1: The school site with the best attendance at the end of the month will win an attendance trophy and a banner to hang at their school site- the trophy and banner will be passed on from year to year to whichever schools show the best attendance in the month of September.

Challenge 2: The school site with the most improvement at the end of the month will win a most improved trophy and banner to hang at their school site- the trophy and banner will be passed on from year to year to whichever schools show the best attendance in the month of September.
Promote Safety and Inclusion
Suspensions and Expulsions
We are gearing up for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year, this time of year is tough. Many of our kids are burned out (and staff ;) ) and we are seeing a spike in suspensions and expulsions. Sometimes we are seeing these spikes because previous interventions are not working. Working with colleagues, SLS and the DO to provide support structures at your sites are even more imperative now.  I appreciate all of you who filled out the survey and we will shortly be meeting with each of the sites to see where you want to put some of these new Rebekah's services at your site.
Embrace Diversity
Students with Autism in the Classroom
This webinar will review strategies when working with students with Autism. The session will go through a case with an 8-year-old student that is high functioning with limited communication skills. We will create a Behavior Intervention Plan, as well as generate a number of activities and resources to develop his skills in the area of Emotional Regulation, Verbal Communication, and Receptive Language.

ATTENDANCE

Chronic Absenteeism by site
Site attendance clerks came together on 4/1/19 to discuss attendance procedures, shifts in chronic absenteeism and truancy, and best practices.

The attendance clerks worked together to determine gaps in the process when a student is absent and what we can do as a collective to help improve attendance.

TED talks

New School Leadership
Donte Quinine
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. A new paradigm of collaborative leadership is emerging. This non-hierarchical model focuses on ordinary contributions from many rather than the extraordinary contributions of a few. In this inspiring and engaging talk Donte Quinine discusses the evolution of leadership and how simple acts of leadership can have a huge impact.

Formal acknowledgment of the schools who are being recognized for PBIS!!!
A Message from the PBIS Coalition:

September 1, 2019

 Dear PBIS Colleague,

Congratulations!

On behalf of the California PBIS Coalition, we are pleased to recognize Nordstrom Elementary School of the Morgan Hill Unified School District for successful PBIS implementation at the GOLD level. Your school is a recipient within the California PBIS Coalition’s System of Recognition, reflecting excellence in the measurement of fidelity as well as your efforts in implementing the core features of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports.
To acknowledge this honor, your school’s name will be displayed on the California PBIS Coalition webpage and posted at the 4th Annual California PBIS Conference in Sacramento on October 28-29, 2019. To view this webpage click here. Also included is an official electronic emblem which we encourage you to post on your school website and in all staff email signatures to celebrate your success.
The level received reflects the award you applied for or the level for which you were qualified.  If you did not meet the requirements of the level you applied for, the CPC Committee evaluated your application for other levels to determine the appropriate level of recognition.
We sincerely appreciate your hard work and commitment toward implementing PBIS with fidelity and creating the conditions to maximize academic and social behavioral outcomes for ALL students. We will be sending out the official California PBIS Coalition press release soon. Congratulations again on this outstanding recognition!
Sincerely,

The California PBIS Coalition
