Legal Updates

Updates in CalPads and Discipline
CalPads and Discipline Updates (summary)
  • LEAs must now report all incidents in which a statutory offense is committed, regardless if it results in a disciplinary action of suspension or expulsion
  • If a student was first suspended prior to a final disciplinary action of expulsion, the number of instructional days that the student missed instruction due to the suspension that preceded the expulsion; and
  • The number of instructional days the student missed due to the expulsion, which would be the number of instructional days from when the student is exited due to the expulsion to when the student is enrolled in a subsequent school, or the end of the school year, whichever comes first.
  • Previously, LEAs were instructed to report incidents resulting in half-day suspensions for students with disabilities, and to only report incidents resulting in full-day suspensions for all other students. To align with Office of Civil Right rules, LEAs should now report all suspensions, regardless of the length of suspension.

Attendance

Hello everyone,
This is Jordon Godinez one of the new members of the Student Support Services Department. I have been focusing on attending meetings regarding attendance and truancy measures across the county. I have been able to get a lot of information that I hope to bring to our district and help improve attendance at all of our schools. I would like to thank all of the schools and attendance teams that I have met to begin the process of figuring out how we can improve what we are already doing when it comes to follow-up procedures for absenteeism. I also just attended the State SARB meeting on the 15th which was a meeting of any district in California wanting to get more information about the programs available to us to improve attendance and how districts can become SARB certified.
