TED TALKS

Bill Gates
"Teachers need real feedback"

Bill Gates discusses our education system in terms of how we give teachers feedback in order to stimulate improvement. His statistics are mind-blowing and will spark your inner drive to become better at what you do. Gates describes how Shanghai ensures new, young teachers are mentored by master teachers, ensuring that quality instructional practices are passed on. The Gates Foundation’s “Measures of Effective Teaching” project has partnered with 3,000 teachers across the country, and, in this TED talk, you’ll see how the project is helping teachers learn from their actions through video recording. Your classroom performance will improve after spending just ten minutes watching this TED talk.

BOOK STUDY

Change Maker's Playbooks
Amy J. Radin
Picture
Any leader in any size company, no matter the size or sector, feels the pressure to innovate, find new ideas and business models, and create enduring customer value. There is no one formula or set process to find and execute the ideas that achieve these goals; customers set moving targets, shareholders are unforgiving and demanding, and society expects companies to care about much more than the bottom line....
....The book walks readers through Radin’s adaptive, 9-part framework, engaging them in ready-to-apply techniques. Her work shows leaders how to find the big ideas that will meaningfully address customer needs, take the insight from idea through implementation in a way that delivers in the short and long-term for the organization, and lead effectively through the obstacles that tend to derail or diminish innovation. Three phases – Seeking, Seeding and Scaling – organize the framework within an intuitive, logical and usable format, with concrete actions outlined every step of the way.

CARE TEAM UPDATES

Parent Project
We are headed into the half-way mark of the first cycle of the Parent Project and have begun accepting families for the first cycle of the Spanish version starting Fall 2019. (Dates TBD)
Please reach out to us with families you believe would benefit from this course.
We are also accepting families for the second cycle of the English version as well.
SLS Support
We have continued to support our SLS Coordinator by assisting the community volunteers at the monthly food distributions held at San Martin Gwinn and PA Walsh.

191 Re-certification
From now until the end of school we will be reaching out to families to re-certify them as 191 for next year. This is a crucial step in servicing our families and enables us to provide efficient support from the first to the last day of school.
